Bulgaria 1984
Lunas 1, 2, 3
This commemorative sheetlet was issued in October 1984, 25 years after Luna 3 took the first photographs of the Moon’s far side. The stamp itself features an accurate representation of the photographic map of the far side of the Moon made by Luna 3. To the right of it are three sketches labelled Luna 1, Luna 2, and Luna 3. The sketch marked ‘Luna 2’ is not the probe at all but actually a sphere of pennants that it carried to the surface.
The surrounding sheet shows a stylized astronaut and a Lunokhod rover on the lunar surface.
