Apollo 15

USA 1971 stamp Apollo 15

These stamps, joined together as a panoramic pair, marked ten years of human exploration since the first American manned spaceflight by Alan Shepard in 1961. They were issued on 1971 August 2, the very day that the Apollo 15 astronauts left the Moon after having been the first to use the Lunar Roving Vehicle shown here. The Sun and Earth are placed unrealistically low and close together in the sky for artistic effect.
