Finland 2009 – Three colourful aurorae
This delightful trio of stamps depicts three colourful aurorae: one green, one
red and a multicoloured a corona. The photographer was Jouni Jussila, a Finnish space scientist who was then at the University of Oulu. Coordinates
on the stamps indicate where they were shot. Dates are not given but the
pictures match images on the photographer’s website (now-vanished) dating from 1999 and 2001. The stamps are self-adhesive
and were issued on a yellow backing strip. They are listed in the Gibbons
catalogue in a different order to that shown here, although the above order
appears to be the one in which they were issued.
