Greenland 2012 – Europa ‘Visit Greenland’
The theme for the annual Europa series of stamps in 2012 was simply ‘Visit...’, an opportunity for each country to showcase its tourist attractions. Greenland
chose the northern lights, above, and icebergs (not shown). The northern lights
picture was taken by photographer John Rasmussen from the town of Narsaq in southern Greenland during the exceptional Halloween
storm of late October 2003. Rasmussen commented: ‘Unlike the normal yellowish green gleam, this night there were powerful purple
red nuances.’
