Sweden 2000 – Auroral bands
Green auroral bands snake across the sky on one of a strip of six self-adhesive stamps from Sweden depicting various atmospheric phenomena. The
strip was issued in a booklet titled Tecken i skyn, ‘Signs in the sky’. Other members of the strip depict clouds, rain, lightning and a rainbow. These
were the first self-adhesive stamps in Sweden and were intended for use on
domestic first-class letters. The image was taken not in Sweden but in Denali National Park, Alaska, by local
photographer Tom Walker; it was flipped left to right on the stamp.
