Constellations in Bode’s Uranographia –
the sky’s top 100 (and more)
Here is an alphabetical list of all the constellations included in Johann Bode’s immense Uranographia atlas of 1801. Names and spellings are as given in the tables in the catalogue that accompanied the atlas called Allgemeine Beschreibung und Nachweisung der Gestirne. The total number of entries is 102, but In addition Antinous, Cerberus, Lochium Funis, Mons Maenalus, Musca, and Triangulum Minus are listed as sub-constellations – see Note 3 at the end of the table.

NOTES:
1. Lyra is listed as ‘Vultur et Lyra’ and Dorado is listed as ‘Xiphias’.
2. Nubecula Minor and Nubecula Major, the Large and Small Magellanic Clouds, are included in the constellation list, although they are not now regarded as constellations.
3. Antinous, Cerberus, Lochium Funis, Mons Maenalus, Musca, and Triangulum Minus are listed as sub-constellations. If these are counted separately, then the total number of constellations on the Uranographia charts comes to 106, discounting the Nubeculae.
